Ramapough Poets

General Information

Description

Organization Profile: Ramapough Poets is a group of dedicated poets, who meet regularly to hone their skills in the craft of poetry, through the workshopping of original poems, and who seek to support the art of poetry in the community through readings and related activities. The group is called Ramapough Poets to reflect their involvement with the entire Rockland County community; the archaic spelling of “Ramapough” is intended to show that they draw inspiration from this broad Ramapough region in which they live. Literary Series Profile: Ramapough Poets hold private workshops twice a month at Valley Cottage Library. These workshops are open to the visiting public when space permits; a phone call to the Workshop Officer is necessary to secure space availability on a given day. During each calendar year, Ramapough Poets holds several readings of the work of members and friends, at local galleries, libraries and bookstores. Ramapough Poets also hosts Poetry in the CafÉ, a poetry reading series sponsored by Barnes & Noble that features students from local schools reading their own poetry. Some of our members have developed a Poets in the Schools program, bringing their poetry and teaching poetry to students in Rockland County and the surrounding communities. Members’ poetry has been published in national small press publications and web-zines, such as Windsor Review, Plainsongs and Poetry Heaven.
