General Information

Description

The 10 story Jewish Daily Forward Building was erected at 173-175 East Broadway between Rutgers and Jefferson Streets in 1911-1912 by architect George A. Boehm. It was home to many Jewish social and benevolent organizations and the “Jewish Daily Forward” which was, in the 1920s, the largest Yiddish daily newspaper in the world. Editor of the “Forward” from 1903 to 1951 was journalist and novelist Abraham Cahan. Today the building has been renovated and converted to condominiums. The exterior of the building has been declared a landmark and retains the “Forward Building” name and ornamentation.
