Geneseo Migrant Center Inc

General Information

Description

The Geneseo Migrant Center provides a variety of services to migrant farmworkers residing in the immediate geographic area as well as coordinating programs on a regional, statewide, and national level to benefit migrant farmworkers and their families.
The Geneseo Migrant Center operates as both a registered nonprofit 501(c)(3) entity known as the Geneseo Migrant Center, Inc. (GMC, Inc.), and as the BOCES Geneseo Migrant Center (BGMC), under the umbrella of the Genesee Valley Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) local education agency. This dual identity has allowed the Center the flexibility to serve migrant farmworker families through financial support from federal and state governments, as well as corporate and private sources.
CAMPS Literature – This program pairs bilingual writers with Latino migrant farmworkers in farmworker labor camps. Poetry on a theme is read in Spanish & discussed, then the workers write (or dictate, in some cases) their own poems, which are later typed and translated into English. Copies are given to the workers.
