Chautauqua Writers’ Center
General Information
Description
The Chautauqua Writers’ Center is a lively community of writers at all levels of development who cultivate the craft and vision necessary to grow as artists under the tutelage of highly-accomplished writers-in-residence, which in 2019 will include Jessica Bruder, Aimee Nezhukumatathil, Rion Amilcar Scott, and Maggie Smith. Our programs are primarily offered during the nine-week season at Chautauqua Institution, which typically requires the purchase of a gate pass—but not always! Now entering our fourth decade, we continue to offer 20 week-long workshops (registration required), 9 free Sunday readings (no ticket or gate pass required), and 18 Tuesday/Friday writer lectures (gate pass required). We now also offer a housing scholarship for first-time Chautauquans (applications open January to March), as well as a June Writers’ Festival. Local writers hoping to enroll in a workshop may use their registration receipt as a temporary gate pass to access the grounds around class time. Whether you are an accomplished writer looking for peer support on your latest drafts, a novice striving to take your work to the next level or simply an avid reader in love with all things literary, we welcome you and hope to see you at one of our many programs.
