Columbia: A Journal of Literature and Art

Columbia: A Journal of Literature & Art is an annual literary journal edited and produced by MFA students in the Writing Division of Columbia University’s School of the Arts. The journal publishes poetry, fiction and non-fiction from both established and emerging writers.

The name “Hanging Loose” came from the format of the first issue of the magazine, in 1966, which was loose paper in an envelope. Now Hanging Loose is bound and also has its own press.
