Gwen L. Ifill

(1955-2016) Journalist. Gwen Ifill was born in Jamaica, Queens, New York, and died in Washington, District of Columbia. As a journalist, she reported for The Washington Post, The New York Times, NBC, PBS, The Boston Herald-American, and The Baltimore Evening Sun.

Lee Israel

(1939-2014) Writer. Lee Israel was born in New York City and died in Manhattan, New York. She authored four books, but was best know for the letters of celebrities she forged.

Stanley Isaacs

(1929-2013) Writer. Stan Isaacs was born in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York, and died in Haverford, Pennsylvania. He was a reporter for Newsday and wrote the column Out Of Left Field.

Molly Ivins

(1944-2007) Columnist. Molly Ivins was born in California in 1944, and died in Austin, Texas in 2007. She earned a master’s degree at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.

John Treat Irving

(1812-1906) Writer and nephew of WASHINGTON IRVING; lived in Manhattan. Works include “Quod Correspondence” aka “The Attorney” (1842), “Hunters of the Prairie” (1837), and “The VanGelder Papers” (1887).

Christopher William Bradshaw Isherwood

(1904-1986) Writer, novelist. Isherwood stayed at the George Washington Hotel, Lexington and 23rd Street, Manhattan, New York with W. H. Auden; and later, Isherwood stayed at 207 East 57th Street, Manhattan, New York.

Washington Irving

(1783-1859) Author, essayist, travel writer. Irving was born at 131 William Street in New York City and later lived at 428-434 Lafayette Avenue.
