(1843-1913) Editor, poet. Francis Fisher Browne was born in South Halifax, Vermont, and died in California. He studied law in Rochester, New York. He edited the “Lakeside Monthly” (Chicago) from 1869 until 1874, “The Alliance” from 1878 until 1879, and “The Dial” from 1880 until 1913.
(1930-2008) Writer. Edward D. Hoch was the writer of over 900 mystery stories. Many of his mystery stories were published in periodicals like Argosy, Alfred Hitchcock’s Mystery Magazine, The Saint Mystery Magazine, and Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine.

(1879-1970) Poet. Jeanne Robert Foster was the pen name of Julia Elizabeth Oliver who was born in Johnsburg, New York in 1879 and died in 1970. She was an Adirondack poet who wrote two books. She also worked as a magazine journalist and as social worker.
(1941-2007) Historian. Elizabeth Fox-Genovese was born in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1941, and died in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2007. A professor at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, since 1986, Fox-Genovese taught previously at the University of Rochester and the State University of New York at Binghamton.
(1894-1982) Publisher, editor. James Sibley Watson was born in New York and worked in Rochester, New York. Watson was the publisher of “The Dial” from 1920-1929.
