Literary Freedom Project Inc

The Literary Freedom Project seeks to restore the importance of reading books as an essential tool for creating intelligent, productive, and engaged young people. Towards this goal, LFP publishes Mosaic Literary Magazine; develops literature-based lesson plans and workshops; and hosts the Mosaic Literary Conference, an annual literature-education event.

Edgar Allan Poe Cottage

Edgar Allan Poe Cottage, East Kingsbridge Road and Grand Concourse, in Poe Park, is open year-round, on Saturdays and Sundays, and closed on major holidays. The house became a museum in 1917, and is now a National Historic Landmark.

Woodlawn Cemetery

Woodlawn Cemetery is the final resting place for Nellie Bly, Irving Berlin, George M. Cohan, Countee Cullen, Clarence Day, Harry C. Fisher, William Clyde Fitch, Jay Gould, W. C. Handy, Frank Belknap Long, George McManus, Herman Melville, Thomas Nast, Blanche Oelrichs, Joseph Pulitzer, Damon Runyon (Memorial), Francis Hopkinson Smith, and Elizabeth Cady Stanton.
