Bio
(1899-1977) Novelist, writer, poet, translator. In 1948, Nabokov moved to Ithaca, New York, to teach literature at Cornell University. He and his wife Vera would reside at various Ithaca addresses throughout the 50s, and he drew on his experiences in Ithaca for inspiration. Nabokov worked on his famous novel “Lolita” (1958) there, and Ithaca was also the inspiration for New Wye, Appalachia in his novel “Pale Fire” (1961). Nabokov left Cornell for Montreaux, Switzerland in 1961. Nabokov stayed at the Hotel Chelsea.
