Bio
(1924-1975) Writer, screenwriter, television writer, creator of “The Twilight Zone (1959-1964). Rod Serling was born in Syracuse, New York, and grew up in Binghamton, New York. He entered the Army, served in the Phillipines during WWII. His writing career previous to “The Twilight Zone” includes “Patterns” (1955; Emmy winner), “Requiem for a Heavyweight” (1956; Emmy winner), “The Comedian” (1957; Emmy winner). After “The Twilight Zone,” he wrote “Seven Days in May” (1964), a screenplay; he co-authored the screenplay for “Planet of the Apes” (1968); and created the series “Night Gallery.” In 1973, after “Night Gallery” was canceled, Serling returned to upstate New York and taught at Ithaca College. He died in 1975.
