(1940-2006) Writer. Peter Benchley was born in New York, New York, in 1940, and died in Princeton, New Jersey, in 2006. He was a graduate of Harvard University and had worked for the Washington Post, Newsweek, and as a speech writer in the White House. He was the grandson of writer Robert Benchley, and son of writer Nathaniel Benchley.
