Bio

Paul Genega published two full-length collections of poetry in 2001: That Fall: New and Selected Poems, culls from earlier volumes and chapbooks; At The Tone, is a series of persona poems, messages addressed to a distant older brother on answering machines. Enid Dame, Co-editor of Home Planet News, has called the latter a “troubling, moving truthful book,” while Hal Sirowitz, author of Mother Said, notes that “Genega accomplishes what few other poets have been able to do — he makes us his accomplices in matters of love.” Honors include the Charles Angoff Award from The Literary Review, The Nation’s “Discovery” prize and an individual fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. Over a twenty-five year career, his poems have appeared in scores of periodicals in the United States and abroad, including Poetry, Washington Review, Joe Soap’s Canoe (England), The Quills (Poland) and The Nation. Featured readings include the Austin Clarke Library, Dublin; Folger Shakespeare Library, Washington, D.C.; Indiana University Museum of Fine Art, Bloomington; and A Different Light Bookstore, San Francisco. Educated at Georgetown, Columbia and The Johns Hopkins University Writing Seminars, he teaches at Bloomfield College, New Jersey, where he coordinates the Creative Writing Program, and lives at the edge of the beautiful, GE-polluted Hudson River in Stuyvesant, New York.
