(1943-2006) Novelist, war correspondent. Nicholas Proffitt was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan in 1943. He was a West Point cadet, but dropped out after one semester. He was a war correspondent and bureau chief for Newsweek, and wrote three novels. He died in Naples, Florida in 2006.
