Bio

Mary Cuffe was born in Nashville, Tennessee, and has lived in upstate New York for the last several years. She has lived in Galway, Saratoga County, for four years. She is a Communications Specialist for a not for profit trade association representing community based agencies that provide services to people with disabilities. She is a naturalist with special interest in birds, and is especially knowledgeable about the upstate New York and Adirondack region. She now works part-time and tries to devote the rest of her time to writing, horses, hiking, nature study and photography. She has published short fiction in The New England Journal and Groundswell, non-fiction in Yankee, NYS Conservationist, Home Life, Preservationist Magazine, among others; and poetry in a number of literary magazines. Her subjects are primarily local and natural history. She published her first book of poetry in 2000. She has just finished her second collection of poetry, What the Sidewalk Says. Like the Woman of Too Many Days, What the Sidewalk Says is taken from the streets. Cuffe is an artist in the schools, teaching the program “Poetry is Mind Music – Learn How to Play,” to middle grade school children.
