Bio

(1924-1987) Writer. Author. He was born in Harlem, spent an impoverished boyhood there, and at 14 became a preacher in the Fireside Pentecostal Church. His novels included “Go Tell It on the Mountain” (1953), “Another County” (1962), “The Fire Next Time” (1963), “Giovanni’s Room” (1956), and “Tell Me How Long the Train’s Been Gone”, (1968)”. He also wrote essays which were included in “Notes of a Native Son” (1955). He attended DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx.
