Ivar Giaever (1929-2025) Physicist, engineer, autobiographicer. Ivar Giaever was born in Bergen, Norway, and died in Schenectady, New York. He received a doctorate in theoretical physics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, in 1964, and worked at General Electric Research Laboratory in Schenectady, New York, for 32 years beginning in 1956 before becoming a physics professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1988.
