Bio
Gail Radley writes for children from preschool age through young adult. Mainly fiction, her work includes several novels, picture books, short stories and a poetry anthology. Several have received recognition: Odd Man Out, a novel, (Macmillan, 1995): Junior Library Guild selection, Young Hoosier Award nominee. The Golden Days, a novel,(Macmillan 1991, Penguin 1992): Highest Honor in Language Arts Elementary Novels by the Society of School Librarians International (SSLI), nominee for the South Carolina 1993-94 Book Awards. The book was recently filmed as The First of May by S.H.O. Entertainment. The film stars Julie Harris and Dan Byrd with Mickey Rooney, Charles Nelson Reilly, and Joe DiMaggio. CF In His Corner, a novel, (Four Winds Press, 1984): Notable 1984 Children’s Trade Book in the Field of Social Studies, Sequoyah Children’s Book Award Master List. More recent works include Dear Gabby, Things Are Getting Out of Hand (Avon 1998),The Flute Player and the Lazy One (George Ronald 1999) and Nothing Stays the Same (Crown 1981; Bookmice.com 2000). The Vanishing From…series, combining poetry and information relating to endangered animals, four volumesication (Carolrhoda Books 2001). Gail Radley is a lecturer in the English Department at Stetson University in DeLand, Florida. She holds a Master’s degree in English from Stetson and a Bachelor’s with an emphasis in creative writing from Mary Baldwin College. She is a frequent speaker, reader, and workshop leader for audiences of all ages and in a variety of settings.
