Bio

(1832-1915) Author, poet. Ellen Hardin Walworth was born in Jacksonville, Illinois, and died in the District of Columbia. She was editor of the American Monthly Magazine, the DAR’s official magazine, and was one of the first people to propose the establishment of the United States National Archives. She was interred at Greenridge Cemetery in Saratoga Springs, New York.

Ellen Hardin was born in Jacksonville, Illinois, on October 20, 1832.

Ms. Hardin moved from Illinois to Saratoga Springs, New York, in 1851, to live at her new step-father's family estate, Pine Grove.

Ms. Hardin married Mansfield Tracy Walworth in 1852, and they continued to live at Pine Grove.

Ellen Hardin Walworth died at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, Disctrict of Columbia, on June 23, 1915.
