Bio

(1942-2016) Poet, novelist. Douglas Nicholas was born in Brooklyn, New York, and died in Kingston, New York. A former resident of Manhattan, New York, Mr. Nicholas began relocating to Rosendale, New York, in 1998. His poems appeared in magazines across the United States. His books of poems include Iron Rose, a collection of poems inspired by New York City; The Old Language, reflections on the company of animals; The Rescue Artist, poems about his wife, Theresa, and their long marriage; and In the Long-Cold Forges of the Earth. He is the author of the acclaimed series of fantasy novels, Something Red; The Wicked; and Throne of Darkness. The fourth and concluding novel in the series, Three Queens in Erin, written prior to his death, is forthcoming from Simon and Schuster. He received a bachelor’s degree in 1960 from Manhattan College in Riverdale. He was poetry editor of the college literary magazine. He also took graduate courses in medieval literature at New York University. Douglas had a deep love of language. An avid reader since childhood, he was particularly fond of fantasy novels.
