Bio

(1921-2014) Author, historian. Carl Neumann Degler was born in Newark, New Jersey, and died in Palo Alto, California. He received master’s and doctoral degrees in American history from Columbia University. He taught at City College of New York, Hunter College, Adelphi University, New York University, and Vassar College, before joining the faculty at Stanford University. He won the Pulitzer Prize for history in 1972 for his book “Neither Black Nor White.”
