Bio

Writer, folklorist, novelist. Carmer was born in Cortland, grew up in Albion. He graduated from Hamilton College in New York State in 1914. Taught at the University of Rochester in 1916-17 and 1919-21,He taught English at Syracuse University. Wrote about the Hudson Valley and lived in Irvington-on-Hudson. Works: “The Screaming Ghost And Other Stories,” “The Night Rider,” and “Listen for a Lonesome Drum” (1936), which is about New York State folklore. He also wrote “The Hudson” (1939) and the novel “Genesee Fever” (1941).
