(1911-2014) Novelist. Bel Kaufman was born in Berlin, Germany, and died in Manhattan, New York. She was a schoolteacher in New York City for many years. She was the daughter of the writer, Lyalya Kaufman, and the granddaughter of the novelist and playwright, Sholem Aleichem.
