Bio

Barbara Dimmick’s first novel, In The Presence Of Horses, was published by Doubleday in 1998. Translated into five foreign languages, it was a bestseller in Germany and named a Notable Book of the Season by The Brisbane Times. Her second novel, Heart-Side Up, published by Graywolf Press in 2002, was awarded the New Hampshire Writers’ Project biennial NHWP Outstanding Fiction Award. Thurber House, the arts councils of both New Hampshire and Vermont, and Hawthornden Castle International Writers Retreat have awarded her fellowships, and she’s been in residence at Yaddo, MacDowell, Ucross, and other arts colonies and retreats. Barbara Dimmick taught fiction writing at Dartmouth College and elsewhere and, after twenty years of fierce independence, married and moved to Scottsville, New York.
