(1875-1935) Poet, short story writer, journalist. Born and educated in New Orleans. She married PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR secretly in New York City in 1898. She wrote a thesis on Milton and Wordsworth at Cornell University. She moved to Delaware and taught at Howard University. In 1920, Dunbar-Nelson edited and published “The Dunbar Speaker and Entertainer,” a literary magazine. Other works include “Masterpieces of Negro Eloquence” (1914).
