(1755 or 1757-1804) Writer, politician. Alexander Hamilton lived in Manhattan, New York. Along with John Jay and James Madison, Mr. Hamilton wrote a collection of 85 essays called “The Federalist Papers” (1787-88), which were published under the pseudonym “Publius.” Mr. Hamilton initiated the series of essays with the intention of persuading New York to approve the Federalist Constitution. “The Papers” are considered a classic work of American political theory.
