Bio

(1937 – 1966) Writer, folksinger. Richard Farina was a member of the counterculture scene of the early- to mid-sixties. He wrote in Greenwich Village and married Carolyn Hester, a successful folksinger. His friendship with Bob Dylan is a central topic of David Hajdu’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book ‘Positively 4th Street.’

Mr. Farina earned an academic scholarship to Cornell University where he started as an Engineering major. Later he switched to English. While at Cornell he published short stories for some of the local literary magazines as well as for "The Transatlantic Review"and "Mademoiselle." Mr. Farina dropped out just before graduation in 1959. While at Cornell he bacame close friends of Thomas Pynchon.
