(1921-2006) Writer. Betty Friedan was born in Peoria, Illinois, in 1921, and died in Washington, District of Columbia in 2006. Prior to her marriage in 1947, she lived and worked in Greenwich Village, Manhattan, New York. She and her husband, Carl Friedan, moved to Rockland County, New York. Betty Friedan was the founder of the National Organization for Women.
