Bio

CINDY BEER-FOUHY is the Director of Literary Arts at the Northern Westchester Center for the Arts. She develops writing courses and curriculum and teaches poetry and creative writing workshops for children, teens and adults. Cindy is Founder and Coordinator of the Creative Arts Café, the weekly poetry series at NWCA, now in its fourth year, funded by a grant form the New York State Council on the Arts and the Bydale Foundation. Cindy earned a BA in English and a Masters degree in Early Childhood Education and has NYS Certifications in Secondary English and Early Childhood Education. She has worked in public and private schools in NYC since 1972. In July 1996, she initiated and taught the creative writing program at NWCA’s Multiarts Camp at the Briarcliff Campus of Pace University. In 1997, Cindy was on the task force of “Reading Our Writing” the Chancellor’s Writing Initiative for literacy in NYC Public Schools. Cindy studied poetry writing with Ron Price, Billy Collins and Molly Peacock. Her poetry has been published in literary journals and magazines. Selections of her poetry were aired as a half hour show for Paragon Cable TV, in Manhattan, October 1993. She has a son, Joshua Beer, and currently lives in Mt. Kisco with her husband George Fouhy.
