Bio
Daniel Thomas Moran, Poet Laureate, Suffolk County, New York, born in New York City in 1957, is the author of six volumes of poetry, the most recent of which, “Looking for the Uncertain Past,” was published by Poetry Salzburg at The University of Salzburg in 2006. He has read widely throughout New York City and Long Island and has done readings in Ireland, Italy, and Austria. His work has appeared in such prestigious journals as Confrontation, The Recorder, Nassau Review, Oxford, National Forum, Commonweal, Parnassas, Sulfur River, Pedestal, Rattapallax, LUNGFULL, Poetry Salzburg Review, The New York Times, The Journal of the American Medical Association, and The Norton Critical Anthology on Darwin. From 1997-2005 he served as Vice-President of The Walt Whitman Birthplace Association in West Hills, New York where he instituted The Long Island School of Poetry Reading Series and has been Literary Correspondent to Long Island Public Radio where he hosted The Long Island Radio Magazine. His work has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize on three occasions. He has read internationally. He is a participating writer to The Passwords Project, an international collaboration between visual artists and writers based in Austria. In 2005 he was appointed Poet Laureate by The Legislature of Suffolk County, New York. He has been listed in Who’s Who in America, The International Who’s Who, and The International Who’s Who in Poetry. He is Editor of the Light of City and Sea, An Anthology of Suffolk County Poetry 2006 (Street Press). A collection of work in translation to Spanish is forthcoming from Santo Oficial in Lima, Peru in late 2006. His collected papers are presently being archived by his alma mater, Stony Brook University. He is a practicing Doctor of Dentistry on Shelter Island where he lives with his wife Karen.
