Bio
Richard Levine, a retired New York City school teacher, is the author of Richard Levine: Selected Poems (FutureCycle Press, 2019), Contiguous States (Finishing Line Press, 2018) and five chapbooks: The Cadence of Mercy (FLP, 2014) A Tide of a Hundred Mountains (2012 Bright Hill Press Chapbooks Award), That Country’s Soul (FLP, 2010), A Language Full of Wars and Songs (Pollack Press, 2004), Snapshots from a Battle (Headwaters Press, 2001). An as yet unpublished manuscript has been a finalist or semi-finalist for the Ohio State Press Poetry Book Award, University of Arkansas Press Miller Williams Poetry Prize, and Bright Hill Press Poetry Competition. His poems have appeared in many journals and anthologies including, BigCityLit.com; Blueline, Comstock Review; Cutthroat, Lucid Stone; Many Mountains Moving; Medicinal Purposes Literary Review; Modern Poetry, North American Review; Rattapallax; Rattle; SOLO; The Same, Thema, Washington Square, 32 Poems. Awards 2003 – Ohio State Press/ The Journal Poetry Book Award, finalist – Robert Frost Foundation Poetry Award, honorable mention 2002 – Winning Writers, 2002 War Poetry Contest, finalist – BigCityLit.com chapbook contest, finalist – Lyric Recovery Poetry Festival, semi-finalist – 2001 – James Hearst Poetry Prize, finalist, North American Review 2000 – two of his poems have appeared in former U.S. Poet Laureate Ted Kooser’s column, American Life in Poetry – Vermont Studio Center grant 1999 – half a bubble off plumb poetry contest, first prize, Eratica – Discovery/The Nation Poetry Competition, sponsored jointly by The 92nd Street Y and The Nation, semi-finalist – New Millenium, semi-finalist.
