Liz Rosenberg

Bio

Liz Rosenberg was born in Glen Cove, New York, and has lived in Binghamton, New York, for the past 25 years, where she is a professor of English and Creative Writing at Binghamton University. She earned her B.A. from Bennington, M.A. from Johns Hopkins, and a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Binghamton. Her first book of poems, The Fire Music, won the Agnes Starett Prize and was published by the University of Pittsburgh Press, as was her second book, Children Of Paradise, a Paterson prize Honor Book. Her third book, a collection of prose poems, These Happy Eyes, was published by Mammoth Press, followed by Demon Love and The Lily Poems (Bright Hills) She has also published three novels, the highly praised Home Repair, a Target Break-Out selection, Goodreads Best Books of 2009, chosen by the Jewish Book Network for 2009; HEART AND SOUL (Borders Top 100) and 17: A Novel in Prose Poems. In addition she has published more than 20 award-winning books for young readers, including five prize-winning anthologies of poetry for teenagers. Her work for young readers has won an IRA Choice Award, the Claudia Lewis Prize from Bank Street, the Lee Bennett Hopkins Prize from the Center for the Book, Hungry Mind Books of Distinction, Riverbank Books of Distinction, and many other honors. She served as chair of the 2005 National Book Awards for Young People’s Literature, and as judge for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize in 2008 and 2010. Her stories and poems have appeared in The New Yorker, The Atlantic Monthly, Harper’s, Poetry, American Poetry Review and elsewhere, and she has given workshops and readings throughout the country and abroad. She writes a monthly book column for the Boston Globe.
