Bio
Barbara Adams was born in Manhattan and moved to New Paltz, New York, when she was 9. She earned a B.A. and M.A. at SUNY New Paltz, and the Ph.D. from NYU. She was a professor of English specializing in American poetry and fiction at Pace University in New York City for 18 years. Now she writes full-time, living in Newburgh, New York, where she and her husband raised 4 children. She won first prize in fiction in the 1999 Negative Capability contest. Her poems have been published widely in literary magazines, and her essays and short stories have been published in many professional and literary journals. Her first play, God’s Lioness & the Crow: Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes, was produced in New Paltz, New York in November 2000 by the Mohonk Mountain Stage Company. She gives readings frequently in New York City and the Hudson Valley and is a member of Poets & Writers, P.E.N., and P.S.A.
